ABOUT


Georgia Hayward [she/her] is an artist, writer and artsworker of Mardigan/Maranganji and Anglo-Celtic descent. Utilising the urban environment as both subject and substrate to investigate constructed of civic space in australia and its impacts on contemporary social dynamics and community development. Georgia investigates these ideas through social, spatial and digital practices to engage with polyphonic and polycentric readings of public space to cultivate relational, place-based and regenerative community outcomes.

Based in Meanjin [Brisbane], Georgia works as the Director at Outer Space, a non-for-profit contemporary arts organisation focused on supporting the ambitious development and professionalised practice of emerging, early and mid-career artists. Georgia is also a Co-Chair, Editor and Board Member for Runway Journal, an experimental digital art platform. Through knowledge-sharing and collaboration, Runway commissions and publishes critical and artistic works that respond to thematic callouts and engage with current threads of Australian and international contemporary art.

Georgia was selected as one of 15 delegates for Creative Australia's 2024 (re)situate Biennale Delegates Program, where she joined delegates from across Australia and Aotearoa (New Zealand), to work with artists, producers and curators from Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art, Yokohama Triennale and the Venice Biennale to develop ideas for future projects and collaborations. 

Previously, she has also held roles as the Exhibition & Promotions Officer at Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery, supporting the Region’s three cultural facilities in Toowoomba, Goombungee and Crows Nest; a Venue Support Officer at Caboolture Regional Art Gallery; and the Curatorial Assistant & Exhibitions Coordinator at Outer Space. Georgia has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Arts) and Bachelor of Business (Management) from the Queensland University of Technology.
